Remote Asset Management or RAM as most know it is a vehicle tracking company that has recently helped out a few charity fundraisers. The company is offering more than traditional vehicle tracking. They offered tracking devices to Pedal for Parkinson’s charity, which was a cycle ride to raise money. Another couple heard about this recent offering and decided to contact RAM to see what they might be able to offer for their charity.

The tracker is for bikes in this case in which the cyclists can be monitored on Google Earth in real time. If anyone gets into trouble or gets lost it will be easy to find where they went. Those hosting charities like this feel it is a big boost to the whole day because there is less worry and a maximum potential for boosting funds raised.

It is just another way to show what vehicle tracking can do when one thinks about things a little differently. For fleet trucks, vehicle tracking is more about driver safety, savings, and increased efficiency. The same can be applied to fundraisers now. For those involved leaving their cars parked all day tracking systems are just another protection option.

If you do a search online for vehicle tracking you will often find many of the sites are company websites for Telematics firms. To get a independent information and advice on the subject matter is not always easy. You can do a search on the blog search engines to see if you can find some impartial helpful and informative websites.

You can of course find helpful information regarding vehicle tracking on this website, but another site that has a particularly large amount of helpful information regarding vehicle tracking on it is http://www.vehicletrackingsystems.org.uk/.

On this site you can find a wide range of information ranging from advice on how to find the ideal tracking system to suit your business needs and requirement to explanations on how vehicle tracking works, the features that available and the multiple ways in which vehicle tracking can benefit your business.

The website does have advertisements on it, but the information they give does not seem to be biased due to this. For example, they have information and articles about tracking companies that are not advertised on the site.

The only real criticism I would make about the site is that the search facility is not that great. When you search for information or articles you have viewed before they do not always appear in the search results when they should. You are probably better off looking through the category pages to find what you are looking for.

UK Power Networks have decided to add fleet tracking in order to respond quicker when there is a problem with electricity or gas. These companies have decided to add Masternaut Vehicle Tracking. Masternaut is one of the biggest names in the UK for fleet tracking. The system installed can handle 1,500 vehicles by managing field staff and home base needs. It is a web based system that ensures roughly 8 million homes and businesses are served because UK Power Networks is able to get to them easier.

Masternaut allows for the companies to arrive at a customer home or business quickly by sending the closest technician as soon as possible, rather than waiting for one that has to leave the base. In some cases there may be more employees needed on the job depending on the issue. With Masternaut they are able to dispatch everyone to the location when needed. It also works to reduce operating costs such as fuel consumption and driver wages. Administration is also enhanced with the programme. This is just another reason other companies might want to look towards fleet management products. There are quite a few benefits, and even power companies realise this.

According to Security Park’s home office study there were fewer stolen cars in 2010 than in 2009. The figures are 107,000 and 119,000 respectively. Unfortunately, this is not all good news. The Police Offices Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service showed that vehicle crime is on the increase in certain areas of the UK. About 300 cars are stolen each day in some of the areas. The trouble is criminals are beginning to employ different means that are more sophisticated than the past. They have jamming tools that are able to block some of the systems on the vehicles. About 50% of vehicles are never recovered.

Given the problem of more vehicles being stolen in certain areas, it is imperative to consider the vehicle tracking system one uses. According to the experts, it is essential to choose a system that can beat the jammers being used by the criminal element. The devices are sophisticated as they are able to find the signal and block it. However, with a better system it would be easier to ensure the jammer doesn’t work. Fleet management companies need to consider the expense of the system they have and whether it can stand up to the more sophisticated thieving equipment.

There are some questionable statements out there about whether thieves are actually being beaten with regards to car theft. Some surveys state there are more than 300 vehicles in some areas of the UK being stolen a day. The BBC recently had an interview with Richard Scott who said new cars are almost impossible to steal unless the thief has the keys.

It is true in the last seven years thefts have fallen to lower numbers. 20 years ago 600,000 cars a year were stolen so 107,000 in 2010 are definitely lower. Part of the reason for the lower numbers comes from the modern car keys, which are usually coded. There are also extra security benefits like vehicle tracking and car alarms.

Fleet vehicles such as HGV vehicles are still easier to steal. They may have tracking devices, but in general the security system is not as involved as a compact car. Other vehicles like farm vehicles are also not equipped for security, and they get stolen quite often. The only way to combat this is some aftermarket touches like a top security system and vehicle tracking device. With vehicle tracking it is possible to send out an alert quickly to help recover the vehicle. It also works as a deterrent.
