Some fleets that drive in and out of the London Areas, where congestion charges occur can purchase optional extra, called congestion zone alerts, when buying vehicle tracking systems.Congestion Zone Alerts are set up so stop businesses incurring charges when they unexpectedly enter a congestion charge zone. The alert system alerts the manger or managers of the fleet in a selected way to allow them to pay the charge, before they are hit with a fine.
The alerts can be sent by SMS to a managers mobile or via email or of course, both. Many businesses, I believe will use both alerts as the managers may not be at their desks to retrieve emails from their PC, but are more likely to have their mobile phones on them. This however, is probably changing as the use of Blackberry’s and I Phone’s are on the increase which of course, emails can be relayed to.
Although the primary costs of purchasing the congestion zone alerts system may seem high, compared to the charges that you could incur over time, this is cancelled out. The current fine for using a congestion zone area is £120 which is reduced to £60 if paid for in the first 14 days but then increases to £180 if not paid after 28 days. The congestion charge for fleet vehicles is £7 per day. Which would you prefer to pay? I know what I would choose.
